Personal Mission Statement
Have you ever considered writing your own Personal Mission Statement? All successful businesses have them. You can see them framed and hung in the lobby of any corporation. The Mission Statement is the vehicle for telling the world what the corporation’s purpose, values, and goals are.
Here are the basic questions you can ask and answer to create your own Personal Mission Statement:
- What are three things I would like to achieve in my own life?
(example: peace, sense of living on purpose, being present) - What are three things I would like to see happen for the local or world community?
(example: people living purposeful lives, end of war, freedom for people to live according to their own spiritual beliefs without persecution) - What are three gifts/talents I want to share with the world?
(example: communication skills, compassion, respect for others)
Once you have these three lists you are ready to combine them into a Personal Mission Statement.
So, using the information from the examples above, the finished statement might sound like this: “By using my communication skills and my deep respect for others I will help people live purposeful lives and by doing so achieve peace in my own life.”
By clearly stating your own Personal Mission Statement you can more easily create your vision and set your goals.
